RO membranes are simply woven filters in which the pours go down to the size of molecules. Different membranes filter different size molecules out and allow anything smaller to pass through.

One stream enters membrane housing and two streams leave it - one concentrated dirty stream and one clean stream.

On average a 4040 membrane can have a flow rate of 7L/min. For more flow add more membranes.
